FAQS

Q: How do I know if I need new lug nuts?

A: Performance Wheel Adapters.com strongly recommends you purchase new lug nuts to install the adapters onto your vehicle.  Some wheels, including MOST OEM or Factory rims, utilize a flat-seat lug nut and may or may not use a washer. Also, your factory lug nuts will likely be too large to fit into the lug hole of the wheel adapter.  Your PWA adapters come with free acorn seat lug nuts to install aftermarket wheels onto the adapter studs.  They are open end lug nuts with a 60degree taper.  These lug nuts will work with most aftermarket rims, but you should check the lug seat of the rims to make sure they have a 60 degree taper where the lug nut seats on the rim.  You may want to upgrade to chrome lugs if your lugs are not concealed under a center cap.

Q: Will adapters make my wheels stick out?

A: Adapters are also spacers.  However that does not mean it will automatically make your wheels stick out past your fenders.  This is because wheels come in all different “offsets” or “backspacing”.  Front wheel drive wheels have higher offsets then rear wheel drive wheels.  The best way to figure out if your wheels will stick out, is to test fit your wheels on your vehicle while holding it out the thickness of the adapter you want to buy.  If you are looking at a 1.5” thick adapter on PWA.com, hold your wheel 1.5inches off the mounting surface of the rotor or drum.  You can guesstimate how the wheel will fit in relation to your fenders.

Q: Will I need to cut the studs on my car?

A: Possibly.  If the adapter is greater thickness then the length of your vehicle stud, you will not have to cut your stud.  You want to make sure you wheel mounts flat and flush against the face of the adapter.  If your vehicle stud is too long, it may protrude thru the face of the adapter and prevent your wheel from mounting flat and flush.  In that case you should cut your wheel stud.
